Re: Why wont my desktop connect to my JVC GR-D395U camcorder?

Just got this card & installed it ... relatively inexpensive at mid-30's USD. Installed easy. The card has both the 1394a and 1394b output ports. The "standard" driver Win7 and Win8 use for this card works fine with PrPro using the squarish port that's a 1394b 9-pin, but won't allow operation with the 6-pin 1394a style port (the one that's sort of like a USB shape with a v on one narrow end of the plug). Going to the Device Manager, clicking on that firewire card, then driver/roll-back drivers brings up a box where you can choose "Legacy" for the driver. Using that you can use either 6-pin 1394a cord or the 9-pin 1394b cord and import/capture into PrPro.

The hardest part can be hunting down either plug on one end and the little rectangular - with - v- divit mini plug used in most camcorders. Then if you've got the appropriate camcorder you just play-back on the camcorder while capturing in PrPro. I've found that a couple minutes in SpeedGrade does wonders ...
