Re: Embed a number at intervals along a path

Kennis,

I believe this calls for a customized solution, because you can never get a standardized soultion to make the numbers fit the path.

You may, Smart Guides being your friends, to have undistorted live Type numbers aligned with and centred at the midpoint of chosen path segments:

1) Create the path with dashes;

2) With the Type Tool create the number at the desired size;

3) In the Appearance palette flyout click Add New Fill, drag it beneath the Characters in the main window and change the fill to white (or other background colour);

4) Effect>Convert to Shape>Rectangle, set Relative>Extra suitably;

5) Object>Expand Appearance, this will give you the tools to place correctly and still have live Type so you can change the number;

5) Click each segment where you want the number with the Direct Selection Tool, then Ctrl/Cmd+C+F to place a copy in front;

6) ClickDrag (a copy of) the framed number from 5) by one of the corners to snap to the segment from 6), then switch to the Rotate Tool and click the corner to set it as key, then ClickDrag by the corresponding corner to also snap to the segment, this will give it the right (same) angle;

7) Select both segment and framed number, then Click the segment once again to make it key, then Align>Horizontal Align Center & Vertical Align Center;

8) Delete the segment.
