Actually, the educational license has not prohibited commercial use for many years.
It is just a discount. Not a different package or even a different EULA. It just requires proof of qualifications.
You might be surprised by what I do with this software. When comes to art, I am a dilettante. But when it comes to technical training, using video to enhance the presentation, or sometimes to be the complete training package, I have been doing that professionally on a part time basis for over a decade. I just can't show it to anyone since it is proprietary and actually owned by the client. All of my courses are designed for a particular client and they own the rights to it all. I saw no problem signing away those rights to the only people who would ever see the videos, or perhaps even want to see the videos. Talk about a dry subject. But they like the way I teach and they like my voice, so I design these courses now and then.
I will certainly have to go back to old projects. I always start the new one by summarizing the old one in a way that specifically helps the viewer understand the direction we are headed in with the new video.
Therefore, I will continue to pay. Perhaps I am lucky that I can afford to do so. But to quote an old saying (one that does not seem to be attributable to only one source):
I’m a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work the more I have of it.
