「古いバージョンで作られた拡張子がないイラレファイル」でしょうか？もしそうでしたら、macOSの仕組みでそうなります。 そのファイルの関連付けをIllustratorにすると、今度はテキストファイルがIllustratorで開かれるようになってしまう可能性もあります。DockのIllustratorアイコンにファイルをドラッグ＆ドロップするのが最善でしょう。
